Créé et piloté par le Muscle et la Cellule, le PING PONG PROJECT est un projet européen qui a pour objectif de favoriser les échanges artistiques internationaux dans le domaine de la création dans l'espace public.
Notre
travail est de proposer, en amont, nos conseils et notre expertise à l'international aux
directeurs de festival dans le cadre de leur recherche de programmation
puis de mettre en place un partenariat avec d’autres festivals créant
ainsi les conditions d’un PING PONG artistique. Les directions des festivals ont la maitrise des échanges artistiques entre eux.
In fine, il s’agit pour nous de stimuler les échanges de pratiques, développer et animer des nouveaux réseaux à l’international auprès des structures culturelles et des institutions, de s'interroger sur la mobilité des artistes et les soutenir dans leur démarche de diffusion et de mettre en scène de nouveaux territoires en allant à la rencontre de nouveaux publics.
Le Ping Pong Project a été initié en 2009 au festival TAC de Valladolid, et prend toute sa dimension avec le festival Cratère/Surfaces à Alès et le Stockton International Riverside Festival à Stockton-on-Tees (UK) en 2010.

Created and managed by Le Muscle
and La Cellule, Ping Pong Project is a European project, which purpose is to
encourage international artistic exchange in the field of creation in public
spaces.
Our work is to offer our advices
and expertise to the directors for their programming, and then to set up a
partnership with other festivals, thus creating the conditions for an artistic
Ping Pong. Each festival director has control over the choice of the artistic exchanges.
In the same time, we accompany
the selected artists, and help them with their projects. We also organize in
situ, a Ping Pong Lounge, also available for professional meetings.
Ultimately, we aim at stimulating practices exchanges, developing and
strengthening new international networks with cultural institutions,
questioning about the artists mobility and supporting them with their
promotion, and mapping out new territories whilst meeting new audiences.
The Ping Pong Project was first created in 2009 in the TAC festival in Valladolid, and now expands in Europewith the Cratère/Surfaces festival and the Stockton International Riverside Festival in 2010.

Les
festivals de Stockton-on-Tees (Stockton International Riverside Festival) en
Angleterre et d'Alès (Cratère/Surfaces) en France se sont lancés dans ce
premier Ping Pong à travers l'Europe en 2010. Ils ont accueilli chacun 5 compagnies
de l'autre pays.
Avanti Display, Tangled Feet, Whalley Range All Stars, Motionhouse et Gravity & Levity étaient à Alès du 1er au 3 juillet
2010.
1 Watt, les Apostrophés, les Ateliers Denino, Ex Nihilo et Le Muscle étaient quant à eux à
Stockton-on-Tees du 28 juillet au 1er août !

The Stockton International Riverside Festival in
Stockton-on-Tees (UK) and the Cratère/Surfaces festival in Alès (France) were
the first participating partners in the 2010 Ping Pong Project across Europe.
Both festivals welcomed 5 companies from the opposite country in their
programming.

Le festival
Cratère/Surfaces a organisé
avec l'équipe du Ping Pong Project deux rencontres européennes, auxquelles ont
assisté des professionnels français et étrangers :
- "Reloaded - La politique culturelle et la renaissance des arts de la
rue au Royaume-Uni" par Frank Wilson, directeur artistique du SIRF -
et présentation des compagnies britanniques du Ping Pong.
- "Focus sur les festivals européens des arts de la rue" avec
comme intervenants Joop Mulder du "Oerol Festival" (Pays-Bas), Ariane
Bieou de "Giardini in scena" (Italie), Jens Frimann de Helsingor
(Danemark) et Poul Witting de Helsingborg (Suède), co-organisateurs du
Gadeteater Festival, transfrontalier Danemark-Suède...
Au Stockton
International Riverside Festival, le Ping Pong Project a organisé l'apéritif des
compagnies françaises au cours duquel les artistes ont pu se présenter aux
autres professionnels dans un moment informel et convivial.
Et Le Muscle a animé le lieu de convivialité du festival, avec la charismatique
présence de Jean-Louis 2000, venu répandre la bonne parole du disco sur la
ville de Stockton !
S'est également tenue pendant le festival de Stockton une réunion "Why Buy
British", une présentation bilingue (français-anglais) de compagnies britanniques
et de leurs démarches respectives, destinée aux professionnels et organisée par
ARC (Stockton Arts Center), présentée par Kevin Finnan de Motionhouse,
compagnie soutenue par Without Walls.
The Cratère/Surfaces festival organized, in conjunction with the Ping Pong Team, two European meetings,
which were attended by both French and foreign professionals :
- "Reloaded - State cultural policy and the
resurgence of UK Street Arts" by Frank Wilson, artistic director of
the SIRF - and an introduction to the British Ping Pong companies.
- "Focus on European Street Arts
festivals", with the participation of Joop Mulder from the "Oerol
festival" (Netherlands), Ariane Bieou from "Giardini in Scena"
(Italy), Jens Frimann from the Helsingor festival (Denmark) and Poul Witting
from the Helsingborg festival (Seweden), both are organizers of the cross
border Gadeteater Festival that takes place in both Denmark and Sweden...
At the Stockton International
Riverside Festival, the Ping Pong Project team organized the French companies
aperitif, during which the artists were able to introduce themselves to other
professionals, in a convivial and informal setting.
Le Muscle livened up the festive site of the
festival, with the magnetic presence of Jean-Louis 2000, who came to spread the
power of disco upon the city of Stockton !
Another meeting was also held in Stockton :
"Why Buy British", a bilingual presentation (in both French and
English) of the British companies and their work intended for professionals,
and organized by the ARC (Stockton Arts Center) and presented by Kevin Finnan
from Motionhouse Dance Theatre, which was commissioned by Without Walls.

Le festival
Cratère/Surfaces à Alès a connu des temps forts, avec une inauguration aux
couleurs anglaises orchestrée par Le Muscle. Les interventions écrites
spécifiquement pour l'évènement ont aussi marqué les temps de tourisme culturel
: les professionnels présents sur le festival, guidés par notre ambassadeur
James Chaplin, ont été conviés à une visite de la bambouseraie d'Anduze, et à
un pique-nique au bord d'une rivière des Cévennes, au son de la cornemuse de
Gordon Mac Arthur et du sifflet du Crazy Bobby, agrémentés par les
rafraichissements offerts par les Tea Ladies.
Au Stocton International Riverside Festival, la so frenchy star du disco
Jean-Louis 2000 a agrandi les rangs de ses fans jour après jour, et les a
invités à ses balades touristiques quotidiennes dans la ville, avant de les
convier à des soirées endiablées au Magic Mirror, lieu de convivialité du
festival, où se sont aussi retrouvés artistes et invités du Ping Pong Project.
The Cratère/Syrfaces festival in Alès had many high
moments, with an English style opening, written and produced by Le Muscle. The
performances especially written for the event also occured during the times of
culturel tourism : professionals who attended the festival, guided by our
British ambassador James Chaplin, were invited to a visit to the Bambouseraie
in Anduze, and to a picnic and swim in one of the rivers of the Cévennes,
accompanied by the sound of Gordon Mac Arthur's bagpipes and of Crazy Bobby's
whistle, all of it spiced up with refreshments served by the Tea Ladies.
At the Stockton International Riverside Festival, the "very frenchy"
disco star Jean-Louis 2000 extended the number of his fans, and invited them on
his daily touristic walks through the city. He then invited them to attend wild
parties at the Magic Mirros tent, the festive site of the festival, where the
Ping Pong artists and guests could also meet.

Lors de cette première édition qui s’est déroulé du 28 au 31 mai 2009 au Festival TAC de Valladolid, l’espace PING PONG a accueilli 6 compagnies françaises :

Soit un total de 32 représentations, réunissant plus de 3 000 spectateurs sur 4 jours.
Au TAC de Valladolid, PING PONG PROJECT est un patio ouvert au cœur de la ville, un jardin des délices artistiques conçu et imaginé par la compagnie LE MUSCLE. C’est un espace ludique et convivial qui favorise la rencontre (Ping) et l’échange (Pong) entre des artistes venus des 4 coins de la France et le public du festival autour d’un BAR ETOILE, emblème européen par excellence, qui s’illumine et vibre aux rythmes des platines à la nuit venue.
Le projet PING PONG a été distingué par le jury du Festival TAC qui lui a décerné une mention spéciale « Pour sa programmation et son apport artistique au Festival ».

At the TAC festival in Valladolid, Ping Pong Project was an open space situated in the heart of the city of Valladolid, a garden of delights devised by Le Muscle company in partnership with the TAC festival. It was a convivial and entertaining space which promoted contact and exchange between the artists and the audience. A floodlight Star-Bar, Disc-jockeys and a crazy dance floor completed the scene of a delightful venue!
The Ping Pong Project received a distinction from the TAC festival Jury, “for its programming and its artistic contribution to the festival”.
